Laurens County was one of nine counties carved out of the Colonial Ninety Six District in 1785 and contains 724 square miles of the rolling piedmont of South Carolina. The county is named for Colonial statesman Henry Laurens who was a president of the Continental Congress and an outstanding Revolutionary War leader.

The rich history of Laurens County, South Carolina, provides a proud heritage for its citizens, but for too long, much of this history has languished in forgotten manuscripts and scattered places.
