Laurens County was the site of more officially recognized battles of the Revolutionary War than half of the other colonies.

The Battle of Musgrove Mill in eastern Laurens County marked the first time during the American Revolution that regular soldiers of Great Britain were defeated in battle by local militia.
The Book Project
In 1982, the Laurens County Historical Society and Arts Council joined to publish The Scrapbook, an historical overview of county history followed by individual vignettes of families histories. Other small histories have been published, typically written about churches, families, and organizations, but no detailed history of the county has been written.

To fill this void, the steering committee of the Discovery Book Project began collecting and archiving the detailed history of the county in 2013. Soon it was apparent that the problem was not too little history, but too much for an average size book. As a result, the committee decided to divide the historical narrative into at least four volumes covering specific time periods. Each volume will be 8 1/2 X 11 inches and contain many illustrations, maps, and tables.
