The first humans known to have lived in the land that would become Laurens County were the Clovis people who hunted giant animals like mammoths and mastodons at the close of the last Ice Age some 12,000 to 14,000 years ago.

Their origins are unknown, but some anthropologists believe they may have come from Europe by following the North Atlantic ice pack in skin boats and on foot.
About Us
The Discovery Book Project was created in 2013 for the purpose of writing a complete history of Laurens County. Eight interested and dedicated individuals formed the steering committee which then solicited input from a variety of community resources, including writers, artifact collectors, and historians.

The committee determined that any profits made from the book would go to support the Laurens County Museum, the Clinton Museum, and the Gray Court-Owings Historical Society with a portion of the proceeds being flowed into the publication of additional volumes.

The editing of the manuscripts for inclusion in each volume is being handled by members of the committee.
